The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) that will affect millions of Americans will be a 2.5 percent increase in Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. This adjustment is crucial for ensuring that beneficiaries can keep pace with inflation and manage rising living costs. At Disability Attorneys of Michigan, we’re here to help you understand what this means for you and your financial planning.

What is the 2025 COLA Increase?

Starting in January 2025, nearly 68 million Social Security beneficiaries will see their Social Security Disability (SSDI) monthly payments increase by 2.5 percent. Additionally, nearly 7.5 million individuals receiving SSI will see the increased payments begin on December 31, 2024.

How Will You Be Notified?

Starting in early December 2024, the SSA will mail notifications about your new benefit amount. This year, beneficiaries will receive a newly designed and simplified COLA notice that is easier to understand. The notice is one page long, using plain language and clearly outlining your new benefit amount, along with any deductions.

If you have a personal my Social Security account, you can view your COLA notice online, which is a more secure and faster option than waiting for mail. To access your notice online, make sure your account is set up by November 20.
