If you’ve been approved to receive Social Security benefits, you’re most likely wondering how often you’ll be receiving payments. Here’s a quick breakdown of when to expect to see your Social Security benefits arrive.
Social Security Disability Payment Schedule
Payments are generally issued on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday each month. However, if the 3rd is on a Saturday, Sunday, or nationally recognized holiday, benefits will be paid on the banking day prior.
However, the payment dates for those who began receiving Social Security benefits after 1997 are determined by their birthday. Those who have a birthday on the 1st-10th of a month, benefits will deposit on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. For those born between the 11th-20th, benefits will arrive on the 2rd Wednesday of every month. Lastly, people born between the 21st-31st, checks or direct deposit will arrive on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
For those who receive SSDI and SSI payments together, payments will arrive on the 3rd day of the month.
How to Receive Your SSD and SSI Payments
Social Security offers a variety of ways to receive SSDI or SSI payments, including:
- Direct deposit to an established bank account.
- Direct Express Card. Deposits money directly to a swipe-able card.
- Electronic Transfer Account.
- Mail, but it’s recommended to accept payments through one of the methods listed above to avoid the possibility of the check being lost or stolen.
